About Milford, DE - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Milford, Delaware is situated in Sussex County and manages to be both well-established and contemporary all at once with a mixed bag of attractions that celebrate local culture, lore, geography, history and more. The striking beachfronts in town, and in other towns within driving distance, make for warm weather fun for the entire family. When the climate cools in the winter, locals and tourists hang out at locally-owned eateries & bars and check out wonderful local museums.

There is plenty of history to explore in this area. When the weather gets cooler, the historic sites in the area are worth checking out. The Governor William T. Watson Mansion is a huge house that was built in 1906. The two-story, brick dwelling has a full width front porch with enormous round wood Doric order columns. In addition, many regional communities have their roots in shipbuilding, transport and other nautical occupations. Milford Shipyard Area Historic District includes 18th century buildings, including the original Vineyard Shipyard (now called Delaware Marine & Manufacturing) and the neighboring workers' homes. The shipyard structures are: the combination office and warehouse (c. 1920), mold/sail loft (c. 1900), boat house (c. 1929), machine shop (c. 1930).

The area’s history is so entrenched in and embedded within the sea that is hard to figure out where the sea ends and the local traditions start. The story of the original Mispillion Lighthouse illustrates the love for the sea that the locals have. The lighthouse was erected in 1831 but then a subsequent, larger and enhanced, Mispillion Lighthouse was built 42 years later. The 65-foot wood tower served until 1929, until it was replaced by a steel frame tower. Over many years of private ownership and neglect, the lighthouse had fallen into a remarkable state of disarray, and was named Lighthouse Digest Magazine’s:  "America's Most Endangered Lighthouse.”  After lightning ruined the majority of the tower section of the lighthouse, the remains of the structure were sold in 2002 and, utilizing what was left of the structure of the previous lighthouse, new owners also completed a considerable addition during refurbishment. The addition is used as their home. A replica of the lighthouse can be seen at Shipcarpenter Square in the nearby community of Lewes.
